R.I.P.

Last night we lost a true original. The Ringmaster who hosted and ran the Napoleon Ave Carnival Parties. The costumer par excellence. Little Miss Organization. Vicki Ward.

This site is for those who knew and loved her to eave their farewells, notes for the family, pictures, stories, and pieces of her Legend. Please pass this address on to anyone who knew her that I may have missed.

We will be planning a gathering in about two weeks on the date of her birthday. Details will be posted here. I will write more when my mind clears a bit.

Carnival will never be the same.

Goodbye Vicki.

My sadness is deep. I am thankful that I could speak to you one last time, and I am even more thankful that we could become the friends we eventually did become considering what a smuck I am. Your forgiveness and kindness will stay with me for the rest of my life and your strength, love and selflessness will always be an unattainable mark that I can only aspire to achieve.

I love you.

Even though we didn't speak often.Just knowing that you where here made New Orleans a better place. "The Big Easy" just got a little harder without you.
I miss you Vicki.

Vicki,

You're one of a kind, girl. Thanks for being a great neighbor and a great friend. Thanks for sharing your apartment, your "refreshments", your bathroom, your infused vodka recipes, your humor, and your life with us. We'll miss you immensely.

What can I say, everyone else has said it all so eloquently! To me and my family, YOU were Mardi Gras. You opened your house and your heart to us, you babysat us and Aura and pretty much half the parade crowd. I can't imagine going to N.O. and not seeing your crazy costumes for MOMS Ball. You made every year an event to look forward to and we will miss you immensly. You will live on in everyone that you touched with your enormous heart.
Thank you for touching our lives!!!!! I only wish that we had been able to share more of your life with you than what we did.

You will be missed.

You were a great sister, even though i didnt get to see you as much, but we have made great memories that i will never forget. This last week spending time with you and helping you, i know it was hard and all, but i will always remember that and will never regret one moment of it!! i wish we would have just had more time to become closer before it was your time to go, but the memories i have with you will last a lifetime. I will miss you tremendously.
I love you sis,
Kortney

Where do I start, I guess by saying I love you and am going to miss you! You were the diamond among the rubies you stood out and were loved by all. I wish you would have had more time on this earth with us but I know we will see you again someday. AnnaKate loved you even though she was just getting to know you, but she will know as she gets older that you were a great aunt that couldn't wait for her to get older so you could bring her to a parade. Vicki, I love you and know you are at peace now. To all of Vicki's friends: Thank You for being there for my sister when she needed you. She thought the would of each and every one of you.
Your Sister,
Heahter

I always knew this was a possibility, but I was never prepared for it to actually happen. I've lost a dear friend and will miss her greatly.

My girlfriend Cassia (who sadly met Vicki only once, but became instant friends with her) ran a one card online Tarot reading for Vicki earlier tonight. She pulled the Victory card, which means:

(Victory): A sense of honor and satisfaction at the resolution of an important matter. Triumph after great struggle. Jubilation at the hearing of good news. The realization of hopes and desires.

Pretty much says it all. I know Vicki's in a better place. But the rest of us will never be the same.

love,
Marvin Vining

P.S. Vicki's Stepmother has both Vicki's cats and they're in need of a new home. I would take them myself, but I have a dog, so that won't work. But if anyone else can, I know Vicki would love to see them find a good home.

Our Vicki.

There are so many things about you that I will miss, I don't know where to start...

I'll miss walking by your place and "picking you up" to have lunch at Nirvana.

I'll miss hanging out with you - whenever.

I'll miss you when it's "Girl's Night."

I'll miss debating who has a larger costume closet or more wigs - you or me.

I'll miss my MOM's Ball buddy. We were going to be queens for 2008. At least you will always have your tiara and purple boa...

I'll miss the pre-planning sessions for costumes.

I'll miss you during Mardi Gras and during the "long walk" and the "up all night" sessions to get costumes ready. 2008 will be the saddest carnival season ever.

Most of all, I think I'll miss our two-hours talks when I'm traveling to a hospital in God-only-knows where. I always knew that I could give you a call and we could talk and talk and talk until I got to my destination so I wouldn't be lonely.

I love you and I miss you every day.
