Another Announcement

Via Heather Patterson:

Hey all,

We would like to get together and have a couple of drinks to toast
Vicki on Thursday night. We thought it would be a good idea to meet
at The Club (Ms. Mae's). We'll get together between 7pm and 8pm and
hang out for awhile. Please forward this to anyone who would like to
come.

Announcements

  • The Wake- Tomorrow, Thurs 4-9pm @ Crooked Creek Baptist Church, Silver Creek, MS ph:601-886-7646 (Closest place to get a room for those who need it is the Liberty Hotel in Monticello which s about 5 miles west of Silver Creek).
  • The Funeral- Friday 2pm @ Crooked Creek Baptist Church. The Interment will take place afterwards at the Calvary Baptist Church. Everyone is welcome.
  • July 19th- Vicki's Birthday- The wife and I have rescued some of Vicki's cordials and some left over Mardi Gras gear. These items will form the basis of our own memorial on the day of her birthday. All are invited to join us out on the edge of Bayou St John (Charlotte has offered up her house) so that we may have the party she would want, and do it in Vicki style. Ohm, could we prevail upon you to grill? We are also contemplating, in true Vicki fashion, to make it a costume event. Details forthcoming.

I would put up a mapquest map but there does not seem to be a street number. I would suggest giving them a call for directions.

For the Mardi Gras Crowd: The plants and chairs from Vicki's Legendary Grotto have been rescued and kept together. They are now 2 blocks off the parade route and will be accessible to the usual suspects during Carnival. Vicki's doorchimes are hanging from the branches of one of the plants, I like to think that when they ring she is hanging out with us. To further prove that, Alexis was cleaning out one of the plants and a brown recluse came out. As she backed off a half grown little garden lizard jumped out and consumed it. Ms. Vicki is watching.

One last note for those who do not use the internet often. Read the comments on each of these posts. This is where friends and family are trying their best to share what this amazing person was to each of us. Leave one yourself...

Says It All...

Those of us who spent parade after parade, carnival after carnival in one legendary ally on Napoleon Ave will always remember the joi de vive that she embodied. A force to be reckoned with, no one could herd the MOMs bound like Vicki! Sherry sent me this, the last picture she had taken of our Mistress of Ceremonies. As she said, "it sort of says it all."

Thank the gods you were around to puncture my pomposity, be part of our wedding, be the best damn bartender I've ever had, and generally be The Infamous Ms. Vicki.

R.I.P.

Last night we lost a true original. The Ringmaster who hosted and ran the Napoleon Ave Carnival Parties. The costumer par excellence. Little Miss Organization. Vicki Ward.

This site is for those who knew and loved her to eave their farewells, notes for the family, pictures, stories, and pieces of her Legend. Please pass this address on to anyone who knew her that I may have missed.

We will be planning a gathering in about two weeks on the date of her birthday. Details will be posted here. I will write more when my mind clears a bit.

Carnival will never be the same.
